There is a convergence of environmental, political, and social chal-lenges that strains both our institutions and our relationships. After a career in public education and recent work with Elders Action Network, I've come to conclude that one of the most powerful responses to the moment is surprisingly simple: Human Connection. This story is about one such "island of coherence," found not in a formal organization, but in a parking lot on The Big Island of Hawaii.
